This value is based mainly on the number and quality of links pointing to your website and are a critical part of Google's algorithm (how they decide where to place your site in the rankings). Recently Google "updated it's PageRank". Essentially what this means is that for those who monitor their PageRank and those of other sites, they were able to see those values increase or decrease.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In reality PageRank is updated about once per month however these updates are only sent to the Google toolbar about once every three months (download and enable with advanced features if you want to see a site's PageRank). The PageRank you see one day many not actually be accurate. For example, in the last PageRank update my web site went from a 3/10 to a 6/10. It is not as if overnight our site actually went up that much. Increasing PageRank is a slow process, the success of which is realized over time. It's just that the toolbar reflected 3 months of work in a single update though Google themselves had been working with updated numbers monthly.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So now you know that PageRank updates monthly and that you can see the changes quarterly, so what?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Well, PageRank is a very important characteristic of the Google algorithm in that it is the final multiplier. Google will do all the calculations regarding your titles, content, etc. and when it's done everything it will then multiply in the PageRank to come up with a final value for your site. Please understand that this is a simplification of the formula, however it should give you an idea of what's going on.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Thus, the higher your PageRank the higher the final multiplication, the greater the odds of you ranking for a specific phrase. I do feel it necessary to note that PageRank is not some magic bullet. There are dozens of factors calculated into the algorithms, this is an important one but certainly not the only one.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A bonus we can witness during these updates is the general direction Google is taking. In this case many site who did little or no link building saw decreases in their PageRank. Were PageRank a static calculation this would not happen however it appears that Google has upped the criteria making it harder to hit the higher numbers.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Important to note is a rumor that Google in not actually upping the criteria for higher values but rather has tweaked a relevancy calculation that gives lower weights to less relevant links, thus decreasing their value to your site. I'm not sure if I believe that Google has actually mastered this ability as of yet however they're certainly headed in that direction and I wouldn't be surprised if they had. In fact, my only surprise would be that they had apparently done so without the massive hiccups and issues that I would have expected from such a difficult development.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Essentially, if we want to grab the single most important points from this update they would be:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1. It is getting harder to attain higher PageRanks. While once it would have been considered "decent" to have a PageRank of 5, I would say a 5 now could well be considered a "good" value.&lt;br /&gt;2. There may well be the integration of some sort of "relevancy" detection in inbound links. If this is the case all link building efforts should be geared towards relevant sites. This is great news considering the complaints email users have expressed about the volume of email they receive. Even more surprising is that a mere 3% of organizations report negative growth or subscriber attrition.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Email received for business purposes is less likely to cause recipients to opt out, making B2B list size more stable. While the majority of B2B and B2C lists are growing slowly, lists intended for consumer marketing are more than six times as likely to experience accelerated growth.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This past year was particularly challenging for business-to-business email marketers, as seismic movements in the economy resulted in job shifts and losses at almost every company. This meant a sharp increase in lost email addresses, and explains the marked difference in trends for B2B. While nearly 20% of B2C mailers report that their list growth is "Very positive," the number for B2B mailers is only 3%, with the missing 17% found in the "Neutral" category.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Digging deeper, we find that email lists that changed in size during the first half of 2009 grew by an average of nearly 20%. The lists that decreased in size during that period did so by half that rate. In short -- the smaller the organization, the bigger the average rate of increase in list size. And I'm also a part of it and I thought I should share my story to all my fellows. So here it is...&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This evening, i was just checking my Gmail and at the same time I'm having little chat with my family and friends via Skype and Live messenger. An email on my MSN id arrived from &lt;b&gt;accounts-noreply@google.com &lt;span style="color: red;"&gt;(Note: Don't email on this id, because this is a post-only mailing.&amp;nbsp; Replies to this message are not monitored)&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/b&gt; entitled '&lt;b&gt;Google Password Assistance&lt;/b&gt;'. I was little surprised, because I didn't requested them (Google) to reset my Google account password. I had a glance at it and there was a &lt;b&gt;BIG surprise&lt;/b&gt; for me... the email address mentioned on email was not mine (it was similar to mine, but &lt;b&gt;NOT MINE&lt;/b&gt;), in my Gmail address i have . websites take more hours of Internet time than any other kind.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;According to figures from &lt;a href="http://www.comscore.com/"&gt;comScore&lt;/a&gt;, people 15 years and older spent nearly 27 billion hours online in September on a global basis.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;14.5% of those hours were used to look to Microsoft sites, while the technology giant's Windows Live Messenger instant messaging program accounted almost 70% of it.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Microsoft sites were followed in popularity by those of &lt;a href="http://www.google.com/"&gt;Google&lt;/a&gt; Griffin says that this means that map searches, video searches, and local searches on services not owned by the big five search engines are the fastest-growing and least-appreciated sector of the search market, which could decipher into big dividends for alert search engine optimization (SEO) professionals.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Griffin also says that searches on YouTube alone are up 41% in year over year figures, and advises that search engine optimization (SEO) budgets in particular and search engine marketing budgets in general should be recalibrated to take account of an amplified presence on the wildly popular video sharing site.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Just released data from comScore point out that slight has changed within the big five search engines, though. has refuted the idea that search engine optimization (SEO) is the same as spam.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Writing for Search Engine Land, Danny Sullivan said that critics of SEO often equate the strategy with spam but that this is not correct.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"That's like saying email marketing is spam or that all advertizing is spam," he argued.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Mr Sullivan stressed that mooted</title><content type='html'>Knowing about a website such as Facebook or Twitter could be one of the requirements of a new degree subject in the US.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh is looking to offer a social media degree to students from spring 2010.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Jakob Iversen is a professor in Information Systems at the university and along with two colleagues he has been looking at how social media can be incorporated into a bachelor's degree.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;He told Fox 11 online that students do not use social media technologies optimally. "They may be on Facebook, but don't see how Facebook may be advantageous to a business," he added.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Prof Sarah Stanley of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh added that employment opportunities in the field of social media are increasing.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The degree is tentatively called Interactive Web Technology Management, but Prof Iversen suggested that this title will change.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Social media will also be used to highlight the experiences of three interns working at the university's marketing agency this autumn, according to the advertising in 2009 as units such as banner ads take off in the sector.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Some $913.5 million (£566.2 million) will be spent on mobile ads this year, with growth set to speed up in 2011, according to Gartner.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;However, the analyst suggested that more could be done by those developing mobile applications to take advantage of the predicted rise in mobile ad spending, Online Media Daily reports.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;While the number of mobile apps currently available to consumers is growing at a rapid rate, most do not include any advertising, Garter said.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Those that have integrated ads tend to use house ads - pointing to a gap between the revenues currently being earned and those that could be generated with third-party ads.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"The growth in mobile advertising revenues is primarily driven by mobile web banner ads, but it also has a strong growth component from mobile search, downloadable applications and SMS advertising," Gartner said in its report.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Last month, Frost &amp;amp; Sullivan released a forecast stating that smartphone downloads from app stores will saw it become more popular than MySpace in the UK for the first time.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This is according to new figures from Hitwise, which show that Twitter accounted for one in every 400 UK website visits in the week ending August 29th to become the 27th most visited site overall - beating MySpace by one place.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Previous statistics from Hitwise have shown soaring growth for Twitter since the start of the year, with the microblogging site seeing a tenfold increase in traffic in the 12 months to January and a 27-fold surge in the year to February.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As Robin Goad of Hitwise commented, it is likely that Twitter is more popular than the figures indicate as many people access Twitter from mobile phones and third-party applications.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"The social networking rankings are changing pretty fast in the UK," he added, noting that Twitter is now the fourth most popular social network and is closing in to invest more in website marketing</title><content type='html'>UK businesses' spending on website marketing will increase by 9% by the end of 2009, according to a new survey.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Undertaken by the ad:tech London show, the poll found that almost half of firms intend to spend more than 30% of their marketing budgets on internet-based initiatives, with 62% stating that this will bring higher return on investment than offline advertising.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Furthermore, 37% of respondents said they believed overall online marketing spending will more than double this year, according to Mobile Marketing magazine.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Christophe Asselin, group marketing and content director for ad:tech, said that the rise of online marketing requires a new approach to advertising by businesses.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"There are clearly opportunities for marketers to capitalise on the increasing investment by UK businesses in online marketing; however, this needs to be allied with an understanding of business needs, not marketing jargon," he remarked.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;According to the Advertising Association, the internet was one of just two
